Why Diversity Matters: Recruiting the Next Generation Part 1

Diversity is important in the field of neurosurgery to attract the best and brightest medical students and improve patient care. The field has always recognized that diversity, both in individuals and in thoughts, knowledge, and experience, is important for optimal patient care.

However, there is still significant opportunity for diversification, particularly in neurosurgery which has low representation of women among residents, attendings and women in leadership positions. Medical schools are working to improve diversity, but it's not yet seen across all specialties. The goal should always be to have the diversity of the nation represented within the healthcare workforce.
